The great
city of the Itzá Maya is a place of wonder and magic and at
Mayaland, you will feel the heart beat. Mayaland was the
first hotel built at
Chichén-Itzá
(in 1923), and with its superb location amidst the temples,
the first within an ancient site in the world. Mayaland is a
creation of Old Yucatán, built and operated by its original
owners and their descendants in a style reminiscent of the
hacienda nobility of a century ago. Its air of genteel
hospitality and old-fashioned charm is a legacy enhanced by
the addition of every amenity. The grounds are alive with
birds and butterflies, and all the exotic fruits and flowers
of tropical Yucatán. The Mayaland Hotel is an Experience in
itself: One that will enrich your stay at
Chichén-Itzá.
Built in 1923 by the Barbachano family, the Hotel has been
totally refurbished and expanded in the 90's with the
addition of Maya bungalows amidst its gardens completed in
1998. You may choose to stay in the main house with
breathtaking views of the Maya temples or in the Maya
bungalows located among tropical flowering trees
ACCOMMODATIONS:
The main wing of the
Hotel Mayaland has 55 rooms and 5 multi-room guest suites.
In addition, individual, dual and three-unit villas are
nestled among the trees and flowers of the beautifully
landscaped hotel. Hand-carved mahogany woodwork and delicate
stained glass compete for attention with the many exotic
birds and butterflies that are perennial resident guests of
the gardens. The villas all have large shaded terraces and
verandas, a perfect place for relaxing after a day among the
Mayan temples.
Clustered around secluded swimming pools, the 50 bungalows
seem an extension of the gardens in which they are located.
Built in traditional Mayan style with wood, stone, native
marble and thatch, there were created for guest wishing to
commune with nature and with the culture that 1,000 years
before rose to greatness here.
Oriented for maximum privacy and the best views, bungalows
are equipped with all the amenities of the main house. In
addition, each comes richly decorated with the work of local
artisans: ceramics, stained glass, weaving, and the region’s
precious hardwoods crafted in a variety of ways. The larger
bungalows have separate bedrooms and pools; they all have
verandas and personal gardeners.
RESTAURANTS:
Mayaland's five
restaurants and its poolside grill aim for variety and
authenticity and are successful on both counts. Options
include international cuisine as well as the best of both
México and
Yucatán.
Each night the elegant courtyard offers full dinners that
highlight the finest cuisine of the Yucatán. Breakfast and
lunch buffets offer a wide selection of tasty delights.
Regional Yucatecan cooking is a world apart from tacos and
fried beans one generally associates with
México.
The Yucatecans take pride in being different, and so they
are. Their cuisine depends heavily on turkey and pork, rare
spices, Mayan cooking techniques and quirky love of peas and
olives.
The pool-side
grill prepares burgers, sandwiches, tacos and other casual
fare.
The kitchen
takes the fruit and herbs, and many of the vegetables
straight from the garden and fruit orchards; it is no wonder
the results are so delightful.
AMENITIES:
The experience of the
Hotel Mayaland is the experience of tradition, style and
luxury. As you lounge beside any of the 3 swimming pools,
you may be serenaded by the 98 per cent Mayan staff and
strolling musicians. At the cocktail hour each evening, the
Jarana dancers perform native dances in whirls of graceful
color.
The stables offer horseback tours to Old Chichén. Private
guides are available for an in-depth tour of the magnificent
temples of
Chichén-Itzá,
and other attractions like the largest cenote in Yucatán (Xtoloc),
and at night the light and sound show at
Chichén-Itzá;
which paints a vivid, dramatic picture of the Mayan
civilization.
Throughout your day the courteous, friendly staff is eager
to do everything they can to make your stay as relaxing and
enjoyable as possible. If you have any special needs such as
a wheelchair accessible room, language, or any other special
request, you will see that the staff will do everything
humanly possible to accommodate your needs.
From the SPA service by "George" to a private helicopter to
visit the sites, you will find the services right for you.
