beauty, art, gastronomy, history and total well-being.
As it happens in the love stories, the Palacio Borghese
seduces through its attention to multiple and diverse
details, the fineness of a brocade, the beauty of a
painting, the elegance of the crystal chandeliers or the
refinements of a bathroom; details that bring each of the
rooms to combine in a very harmonious way the modern
comforts and the charms of the European classicism.
With its six rooms, the Palacio Borghese offers the
possibility of staying in an exclusive place that offers
privacy, while enjoying a personalized service wrapped in
luxury and refinement.
The charm of the beautiful cloister invites to read or to

Palacio Borghese is an ode to the elegance and good taste,
for this it is considered as “the most beautiful hotel in
Oaxaca.”
The hotel has the Galería del Palacio (Palace Gallery,) an
art space that exhibits the varied artistic and cultural
offerings of Oaxacan artists giving great importance to
painting, printing, graphic design, sculpture, photography,
design and art objects, with the aim of promoting and
marketing these works. The Galería del Palacio offers
periodic exhibitions, workshops, conferences and
presentations. The gallery promotes famous artists but
equally offers an opportunity for young artists with
innovative proposals and unique styles to exhibit as well.
The Galería de Palacio is open to guests of the hotel, to
tourists visiting the city and to the general public.
The hotel does not admit persons under 18 years old.
HISTORY:
In the sixteenth century during the viceroyalty period an
incredible number of churches and convents were built in the
New Spain. It was in this context that in Oaxaca (the new
Antequera,) in the year 1576, construction was started on
the Convent of Sainte Catherine of Sienna, the second
convent founded in Mexico by the religious order of the
Dominican nuns.
The land where the Hotel Palacio Borghese is now located
belonged, in colonial times, to part of the lands of the
small Convent Del Carmen. The establishment built on this
plot was intended to house family members of noble ancestry,
who finding themselves in transit while visiting the
religious nuns in the then famous convent of Sainte
Catherine of Sienna, could lodge in comfortable rooms,
making their stay in the new Antequera as agreeable as
possible.
Due to the reform laws of 1862, the convents of nuns were
suppressed, which caused the current building of Palacio
Borghese to be confiscated and to be used for other
purposes. In the following years, the building passed
through several hands, being used for among other things, as
a candle factory and a dairy factory.
The building was recovered with the aim of restoring it and
recapturing its particular charm and singular beauty; and
after two years of restoration, today the property flaunts
its original splendor, housing as it does six beautiful
suites and a spectacular terrace.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
The hotel has six specially designed and luxuriously
decorated the rooms. The rooms of Palacio Borghese combine
European elegance with modern technology. The charm of the
fittings combines perfectly with the fine upholstery and
drapery that adorn each and every one of the rooms.
All the rooms are decorated with a replica (both in size and
technique) of one of the paintings of the famous collection
of the “Caste Paintings,” painted by the great Oaxacan
artist, Miguel Cabrera, the maximum exponent of the
viceroyal painting.
